My wife just asked me when we are going to baptize "mi nina," but since it is still Friday, my mind continues to be on English teacher mode. I do not know how to answer now; my mind has been all week on "explicit direct instruction" and thank god for a little diversion-- creating this blog.

I received a little warning this week, besides my wife's complaints about working too much. I found out our principal had a "minor stroke." Teachers are known for poor health, being overmedicated, but of course we are accused on not taking our job seriously. Why am I going with this thought?

The horror! The horror! Nightmares about being naked in class; arriving late to class; being yelled at by the principals; stabbed by a student in recovery.

Am I being overly dramatic? Do we really know what teaching is about? Do teachers actually take their jobs too seriously and worry too much? What studies focus on overly worrisome teachers? I have heard of no such research.

Yet, if education is going to continue to improve, and test scores need to keep going up, think about the person who makes the biggest difference in the lives of the students. No, not the superintendent.

i have a suggestion for an article, since i am in such a playful mood (snore, burp, wake up, you blogophiliacs!) blogification is a new word... no, seriously, the article is entitled "the composition of dramatic experience: the play element in student electronic projects" ...go to library databases and check "computers and composition 17, 139-160 (2000). the article even makes fun of the frenchies, a prereq for me, in that it talks about "ceci n'est pas une pipe" or however that guttoral stuff goes...the point: the importance of play in electronic contexts and in improving literacy. blah

Hi guys! I have been so lazy about this blog thing, grrr. So we have to present an article having to do with our blog? I'll get to looking at that.

Lisa, that was an interesting article about spam. I hadn't realized the theoretical implications of spam, and I think the article may have made the idea that spam negates the value of e-mail a little too strongly, it's a valid point. That's an overreaction, because I don't know a single person who would give up e-mail communication altogether simply because the amount of spam he gets doubled. It annoys the crap out of me, but there's no way I'm giving it up. But I do agree that we have to fight it, for financial reasons AND peace of mind.

so about the rape in cyberspace...have you ever read pope's poem the rape of the lock?? satirical take on the whole thing. excpet it was written in the 17th c... but the rape in cyberspace, i think, is a good example of mixing up our remediation with hyper -what?mediancy... can you think of a synanom for remediation?? please tell bolter and com.

that would be great, but i'm pissed. i wrote and tried to post something this noon and the google-blogger-pyra comglommeration let me down. nothing posted. and i answered shellie's question about the rape in cyberspace in minute detail. don't blame me: i did everything right. the screeen said too many bloggers at play, so the company that can give you audiobloggertalk still does not have the capacity to let me post a simple response. ghost in teh machine?? let's see if this posts___________________
