sorry i "published" the same thing twice. it did not move so i hit it again. serves me right. so: comunication. actually, i am enjoying this bloggy business. it is good therapy--more healthy than c-sex--and i need to do something else besides phwet about English 621 and research.........so was i rude last night by insisting that ian s answer the question about the bushies? i did not mean to be rude. i do have a problem, however, with people who answer for other people.(i grew up in a house with four brothers and no sisters, and i was the quiet one; my oldest brother used to answer for me, but now the tables are turned; i even talk in my sleep; some say i have Tourettes Syndrome, and i am proud to say, i probably do....)


.............so after pres. powell could not convince good old france today, am i right to make jokes aobut france and toilet seats??? not that i want war, but the france want power or respect, or both...am i misreading this??

Goodness, Karen you are organized...i have to think of a paper topic, which i think will be about languages and the internet..levy was talk ing about it; is english privleged on the web? how about those interfaces....let me ask a few questions about the cyber sex research...hey i am not trying to be mean; i am just curious; by " a lot of people are doing it" what do you mean? are there stats? what did you mean aobut being single? shellie, is that you?

Shellie, I've heard about that kind of cybersex that Levy mentions, and let me be the first to say: that is way too weird for normal human beings. That was how the term was used back in 1997, but I suspect that in standard usage today, cybersex means the very thing you described and requires only an internet connection and an imagination. And as far as that kind goes, a lot of people are doing it. It's not much worse than a romance novel, though, in practice, I think--and look at what a huge industry that is. Or phone sex--a lot of people would have to admit to that. As long as you are single, what is really the harm, unless you take a conservative/religious view. Though, I think it poses major ethical problems to a relationship, and I've been reading about that for my big essay for this class.

Around 1995, I remember our minister giving a sermon about how scared he was that cybersex and sex by virtual reality were going to take over and surpass normal sex. But then again, I was raised in a cult, so like everything else, that obviously did not ring true. Like it could. A--Who could honestly afford contraptions like that. B--Who would want to.

If you're still curious as to how "the act" plays out, I'll ask around, compare notes, and post, informationally, the basic process. But you can imagine it out pretty well I'm sure.

i forgot to mention the English only thing that levy talks about: and the editors of CC mention this issue: is the web set up so that english is dominant and so reenforces the idea that english is the internaltional suprme being language??? or to be a little more unclear: are the interfaces (a word i still do not quite get) set up to reenforce english only or by default, and thus reenforce monolingualism and monoculturalism???????????

which leads to anothe levy issue: phrases like free competition, fully transparent market,even more human...then he ends chapter 17 with: "for humans alone are cruel and their cruelty is proportional to their humanity." what happened to his collective intelligence superhumanism? but i will say that a lot of his stats are good--it is just i dont agree with some of his bias , lenses, or presuppositions (research bab from 621)

and shellie: i thought his line about cybersex weird too; in fact i had no idea what it was; believe it or not: but i have said enough about making salacious comments in emails, so i stop here.
